History

Çimentaş was established in 1950 in Izmir as the first cement factory in the Aegean Region.

Today Çimentaş is within the greatest cement groups in Turkey due to its production capacity. Strategically located within the largest domestic markets as Marmara and Aegean regions, is also present in the emerging markets of Kars and Elaziğ, in the Eastern part of the country.

The close vicinity to the seaport offers remarkable cost advantage for Izmir export market. Çimentaş is in a leading position for the export business also due to its Eastern factories with their strategic access to the neighbor countries of Iraq, Nachcivan, Azerbaijan and Syria.

In 1986,
Çimentaş established Çimbeton to produce ready-mixed concrete (RMC) and diversify its products.
In 1992,
Çimentaş successfully launched the public offer of its shares on the Istanbul Stock Exchange.
In 1996,
Kars Cimento in the Eastern Anatolian Region was acquired in order to increase its geographic coverage.
In 2001,
Cementir Holding, a major Italian cement producer, member of Caltagirone Group, purchased 98% of Çimentaş’ shares.
In 2005,
Çimentaş acquired the assets of Lalapaşa Çimento located in the Thrace Region.
In 2006,
100% of the shares of Elaziğ Çimento was purchased to have access to the Southeast Anatolian Market.
In 2008,
Çimentaş has reached a yearly cement production capacity of 5,0 million tons and 2,8 million m3 of RMC.

Çimentaş is highly committed to social and educational activities. The Group service company Destek provides catering services, outsourcing and fuel stations management to the Group companies and third parties. Since 1987 Destek revenues are used to financially support the Çimentaş Education and Health Foundation.

Işıkkent High School was founded in 1988 thanks to the financial support granted by the Çimentaş Foundation. It is distinguished by its advanced and research based approach to the education. A campus was built for this purpose with all relevant facilities.

Since 1987, Çimentaş Group support the Çimentaş Amateur Athletics Club which has achieved national and international successes in Athletics and Rhythmic Gymnastics.
